A brief history of Maleficent.

Maleficent has a rather simple role in her appearance in the 1942 Disney film Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent places a curse upon Aurora during her christening that upon her 16th birthday, when she touches a spindle she will die. During the ceremony of the christening there was some magic used that reduced this curse to falling into a deep sleep instead of death.
Maleficent spends the remainder of the film attempting to kill Aurora who is whisked away to a forest for protection by the Three Fairies. This is where Aurora encounters Prince Philip, who eventually fights Maleficent in both her human and dragon form and defeats her. Prince Philip successfully lifts the curse from Aurora by kissing her and lifting the spell bringing her out of her deep sleep. Maleficent was voiced by Eleanor Audley.
